Professional Stringer

Let's face it, you're probably only reading this because you're already broken a string, your next match is tomorrow and you have no spare!  We've all been there.

Ok, so I can't help this time.  Why not look at our racket selection to avoid a repeat - many are on offers such as buy 2 and save £xx so you can get yourself 2 identical rackets, always having a spare for a few days whilst you get a string job.

When to get your rackets strung?  Ideally before you break a string so that it's easier to see the wear patterns, weaknesses etc.  The rule of thumb adopted by many is to get your racket strung as many times per year as you play per week.  So, if you play twice a week, you get a restring every 6 months.  That said, if you notice grommets damaged or missing, strings showing signs of nicking when you pull the mains and crosses apart, maybe it's time to bite the bullet and get a string job now!

Check your frame before you send it - there's no point in sending a cracked frame that won't take a restring.  I'll only be able to send it back BUT you'll still have been charged for the service so look carefully.

What string?  Your choice really.  Most will be available so let me know and I'll try to get the one you want (this can affect timescales slightly).  I offer a number of standard restring products that will suit most players' requirements.  They are categorised as budget, intermediate and premium or, as I like to think of them, cheapskate, club player who thinks he's "all that" and "I am the dogs'..".  Which category are you in?  I'm about to find out.

What tension?  What?  You mean I get to choose and it affects how I play?  Yep!  Contrary to what you might think, lower tension gives more power, tighter gives more control.  What does your game need?  We'll talk before the restring is done so don't be surprised if I want to know what sort of player you are or want to be.  It matters.  If you know what tension you want already, that's great but I need to know what type of machine you usually get restrings done on.  Again, it matters.

Grommets?  Are yours cracked, split or rattling around in the frame?  I'll replace any grommets that look like they could compromise the strings - those that have gone to the extent that the new string could get cut on the frame for example.  If they're nicely seated and doing their job ok, I'll leave well alone.  There is no extra charge for removing/refitting the odd grommet.  If things are bad and you need a new grommet strip, I'll try to source one for your racket and let you know the cost first so that you can agree the extra charge before we proceed.

Need crash tape?  A new grip?  Let me know and it can be done at the same time.  Note, I'll need to know if you're left or right handed at this point - I bet no other stringer has ever asked you that very relevant question!

On that subject, a free overgrip will be fitted with every restring as part of the service.  If your grip looks pristine or you really don't want it doing, I'm happy to include the overgrip in the bag when I return your racket and you can fit it yourself when you're ready.

How do I do it online?  Click and buy so very simple.  You'll complete the basic information I need about your racket needs online then make the payment in one go.

Packing/Shipping?  This is where bubblewrap and old cardboard are your friend.  Use plenty and use a "recorded" service so that you can be sure your racket reaches me safely.  I'll use a reliable return service too.  Get together with friends and send 2/3 at once to save postage costs.

Need it fast?  If you don't want to pay the price on court by not having your best racket at your next match, consider paying a little extra to the poor stringer (just £5 in fact).  For that, I'll ship your racket back to you the next day after it arrives.  That means ship first class to me on a Monday and it should be back by Thursday (no guarantees as a lot of this is down to the Post Office service and beyond my control).  Not available if you need special order string or a grommet strip that need to be ordered in.  Call or email first if you prefer.

Whilst you wait?  You really are keen - I always have my haircuts that way.  Costs an extra £10 - you spoil my plans for the day so make it worth my while.  You MUST ring first to check I have capacity to do the job in time.

Any questions?  Call or email.  You should really make contact anyway.  To me, it's racket servicing, not just a restring.  Over a series of restrings, we might learn enough about your racket and your game to make it even better.
